How would you describe your past year as a DJ in COVID-19 times?

Life has inevitably slowed down during COVID-19 times. At first it seemed like this was the worst thing that could happen for a DJ, but now I’m grateful for a break from the madness. Without this break I wouldn’t have been forced to focus on things just as important to me, such as producing.

What brought you from London to Paris?

I went to Paris initially to get away from the distractions of London, so I could really focus on music. When the world reopens I will be heading back home to London though!

Have you recently done anything for the first time? What was it?

Recently, my friend Caleb Quaye and I recorded with a string section for the first time. This is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time and will be doing a lot more of in the future.

In a couple of years from now, what music will remind you of the current time period?

For me it will be UK Drill production that will remind me of this time (Central Cee, Digga D, Millionz). We’re in an age when Drill artists can become pop stars.

What music do you listen to when you want to boost your mood?

I’ll usually shuffle my “90’s Manchester” playlist, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, Cartouche etc…

What music do you listen to when you want to wind down?

I’ve been listening Hether’s acoustic version of ‘When U Loved Me’ a lot recently. I’d advise listening to his whole E.P., if you haven’t already. I’ve also been listening to Alex G & Shelly religiously.

Could you tell us a bit more about the playlist you put together for Closed?

An insight to the current inner-workings of my brain.

What are your favourite places in London?

I love Phonox in Brixton, they’ll always be family to us. Five Miles in Seven Sisters is also one of my favourite clubs to DJ. Unfortunately, a lot of my favourite clubs in London have now been shut down.

What are your favourite places in Paris?

Parc des Buttes Chaumont is my favourite spot in Paris now that the weather is getting nicer. Paris is a beautiful city but you have to go to the outskirts for real parks

How would you describe your personal style?

Varied, with lots of different inspiration. I love streetwear but also love the 90’s northern English attire. Maybe somewhere in-between those two.

The five items in your closet that you keep coming back to?

• My ‘AY-EL-AY-EN’ green trucker hat
• Stussy x Nike Grey Tracksuit for day to day
• Closed denim jacket
• All my pairs of orthopaedic shoes
• NTS Radio sliders

The thing you’re looking forward to the most when this is all over?

There’s not one particular thing I’m looking forward to. I’m just looking forward to feeling freedom again.

Your goals and dreams with your label Bone Soda for the future?

I’m looking forward to continuing to grow and learn from and with the rest of the team.
