Closed cares

We are a family business, and we remain true to our roots of traditional craftsmanship, whilst constantly working on innovation. We are doing everything we can to become even more sustainable without neglecting our high-quality standards. Sustainability has always been close to our hearts, long before it became a buzzword and trend. For us, this topic was always a necessity, and so few words were spoken about it. However, we now want to change that because it is important to increase sustainability awareness. That’s why we want to create more transparency regarding what we are already doing and what we hope to do in the future to produce our collections in an even more eco-conscious way. This will show how important sustainability is to us but also to inspire others to take action too.

But our commitment goes even further: social responsibility is also a matter of course for us. Fairness and justice have been important to our company since 1978.

Our core values shape everything we do. For example, they were the starting point for our eco-friendly denim line. Let’s talk details!

Corporate social reponsibility

As a member of the Fair Wear Foundation, the working conditions in our partners’ production sites are independently audited on a regular basis. Furthermore, through our membership, we commit to the Fair Wear complaint system as well as transparent reporting. We react immediately to the results of all audits and incorporate them into the individual assessment of each production partner in order to be able to draw appropriate conclusions for further cooperation. This involvement and transparency are crucial for us to be able to positively influence the working conditions in the production sites in the long term.

The report on our last Brand Performance Check (2023) was published on the Fair Wear Foundation website in October 2024.

We stand up for the Code of Labour Practices of the foundation. Our production partners have also signed these eight labour guidelines and informed their workers about them: Employment is freely chosen, no discrimination in employment, no exploitation of child labour, freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining, payment of a living wage, no excessive working hours, safe and healthy working conditions, legally binding employment relationship. As part of our membership, we publish a Social Report every year.

Recycled
materials

→ We use recycled materials (e.g. recycled cotton, wool, cashmere or nylon) and thus save resources that would be needed for new production.

Closed cotton

Regenerative
cotton

→ Regenerative cotton cultivation pursues
a holistic approach that has a positive impact on the environment. It has the potential to actively promote biodiversity. It can also sequester carbon in the soil, which is an important step in combating the climate crisis.

Closed top and jeans

Organic
materials

→ To make our collections more environmentally friendly, we prefer to use organic materials (such as organic cotton or organic wool). This allows us to save water and chemicals.

Animal welfare

Closed has stopped using fur in 2014. We joined the Fur Free Retailer network by the animal organisation Four Paws and signed Four Paws’ Brand Letter of Intent to officially call for a mulesing-free wool industry. It is our goal to guarantee that our wool or wool mix yarns and fabrics are mulesing-free. We do not use angora or down
at all.

Climate-neutral business

Our headquarters and warehouse in Hamburg have been climate-neutral since 2018. We try to lower our carbon footprint where we can and compensate for emissions that cannot be avoided by supporting climate protection projects.
